17 Types of Edibles at Dispensaries (2024 Edition)

If you’re new to the marijuana scene, you’re lucky. Ten or twenty years back, cannabis edibles had a terrible taste, and options were very limited. Most of it tasted like it was flavored with backyard skunk weed bong water. We’ve come a long way with flavors since then, and nowadays, there are many types of edibles at dispensaries to choose from.

If you’re at a dispensary, the THC content will is usually printed on the packaging, but as a budtender, I always tell customers that are new to using cannabis products to cut the suggested dose amount in half for the first few times. Edibles can take anywhere from ten minutes to three hours to start affecting the user, and because of that, new users should wait until that three-hour period ends to take any more, and when they do take another dose, it should only be the remainder of the first.

You can find indica-only, sativa-only, and hybrid strains, too, all infused into your favorite snacks. There is something for everyone in the world of edibles, and this is a topic I love, so let’s get started.

List of Different Types of Edibles

1. Gummies

Weed gummies on a plate

Edible Type: Candy

One of the most popular types of edibles by far is weed gummies. These are an incredible way to get high and also very convenient because they store well and typically taste great. They come in an array of flavors and can serve different purposes.

There are gummies specifically marketed for specific purposes as well, so whether you want gummies that make you feel euphoric, feel more relaxed, boost your energy, or even increase creativity, you’ll likely find gummies marketed towards that. There are even gummies made specifically for vegans without animal byproducts and others sweetened without sugar for diabetics.

Most of the gummies available are sweet flavors but don’t worry, they have sour ones on the market too. Gummies can come in all different shapes and sizes. I’ve been surprised by some of the creative gummies that have hit the market in recent years. They taste fantastic, and being that there is such a large variety makes them an appealing option.

2. Hard Candy

Hard candy edibles and weed

Edible Type: Candy

Hard candies that have been infused with marijuana are easily found at dispensaries across the globe. There are many flavors, and can serve multiple purposes.

You can suck on them, chew them up, or break them up into pieces to use as cookie toppers when you bake. Be aware that some flavors will be overpowered by the weed in them, but try them nonetheless.

If you’d like to avoid sucking on even a hint of bong water, you may benefit from going with a citrus flavor, as they tend to cover up the harsh flavors of weed.

Hard candies typically come in containers, such as small tins or plastic tubes, to keep them fresh. Regardless of how you use them, they’ll be a great addition to your stash.

3. Chocolate Bars

Delicious chocolate edibles on a black plate

Edible Type: Candy

If you are a chocolate connoisseur and love candy bars, as many do, it’s absolutely necessary for you to try at least a few different infused chocolate bars. There are plenty of flavor choices that will tease your taste buds. There are coffee flavors, red velvet chocolate, white chocolate, mint, cookie and cream mixed bars, and then some.

Just like non-infused chocolate bars, you can break them into individual pieces (which, in this case, is exactly how they are dosed). Want to be creative with them? Use them to add flavor and a high to your hot chocolate or coffee.

They are super sweet, as you would expect any candy bar to be, but not so much that you won’t enjoy it. For many, chocolate candy bars will always be the way to go. You’ll find chocolate edibles with different ratios of THC and CBD, so for example, if you see 1:1 marked on the package, it means it contains an equal of THC and CBD.

4. Brownies

Weed brownies

Edible Type: Baked Goods

You can’t get much better than the classic marijuana-infused brownies! They are incredibly tasty no matter what kind you get, and rarely will you find one that tastes like anything but a delicious brownie.

They come in standard flavors like chocolate, dark chocolate, triple chocolate, chocolate fudge, and others, but there are some specialty flavors available too. The flavors are just as smooth as the high you get.

One taster way to eat this would be to dust the brownie with a small amount of powdered sugar across the top and then drizzle a little caramel sauce, then dig in. There are few things better than getting baked with a weed-infused baked good.

Not only can these baked little yummies satisfy your sweet tooth craving, but they can fulfill the desire or need for a good high.

5. Lollipops

THC infused lollipop edible and bud

Edible Type: Candy

Just like the hard candies, but with a stick. These fun little treats are packed full of flavor and may bring back warm, fuzzy memories from your childhood.

These suckers come in chocolate, apple, grape, and citrus flavors, but that’s only a few of the flavors you could grab.

I’ve seen people use these infused lollipops as stirrers in coffees, hot teas, and cocoa. Most companies provide the lollipop with a throwaway stick.

There’s actually a company that says to plant and water the stick after you’re done with the candy part because it will become a weed plant.

The creativity and idea for that specific product undoubtedly came from being high. Beyond flavors, there are quite a few strain varieties too. Add these edibles to your shopping list if you’re looking for an inconspicuous way to maintain your high.

6. Gum

Cannabis chewing gum on table with bud

Edible Type: Candy

Looking for minty fresh breath, or maybe a walk down memory lane by chewing gum and blowing bubbles? Gum has come a long way from Juicy Fruit days.

There are quite a few companies producing great weed-infused gum. Lemon, mint, watermelon, pomegranate, apple, orange, and grape are only a handful of flavors that are available.

Gum also offers a very discreet way to dose without sacrificing any of the health benefits you’d get from smoking weed. A stick a day may keep you flying away, but this may be the only time I’d question whether someone can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Ganja gum has a cool ring to it. Maybe even as cool as the flavors available.

7. Mints

Cannabis mint edibles on table

Edible Type: Candy

Sometimes we just need something to soothe a dry throat, freshen our breath, or maybe we just like mints. If that’s the case for you, then look for weed-infused mints at your local dispensary. They may be small, but they can certainly pack a punch.

Typically, mints are created with natural flavoring and won’t have a terpene profile, but you will still get the benefits of using THC though, and because of the natural flavors used, you won’t taste as much of the weed flavor.

Due to being smaller than other candies, mints are micro-dosed. If you feel you need more of a high, you can always dose up by using more than one at a time. Besides being another discreet method of benefitting from infused products, they’re a great spin on an old-fashioned product and are fairly inexpensive to keep on hand.

8. Cookies

THC cookie edibles and a glass of milk

Edible Type: Baked Goods

Ah yes, a nice, cold glass of milk with some edible chocolate chip cookies. The cookies are nicely proportioned in size, come in a variety of flavors, and give you all the same benefits of smoking.

You can choose from so many delicious ones, like coconut cookie sandwiches, chocolate chunks, lemon, cacao peppermint, peanut butter, and a candy-filled sugar cookie.

There are quite a few more flavors too, so do yourself a favor and head to your local dispensary to pick some up. You can also make your own infused cookies from recipes found all over the internet if you prefer.

9. Cereal Bars

Crunchy cereal bars with THC

Edible Type: Baked Goods

Rice Krispy cereal bars can now be found with a serious twist. Weed-infused cereal bars are one of the edible products that have come an incredibly long way as far as flavor goes.

There’s rarely even a hint of weed flavors. With each bite, you will get fruity, peanut buttery or chocolatey tastes filling your mouth. Even big-name brand cereals have been infused for dispensary sales, and with every one of them comes a sweet surprise!

No matter what your favorite sugary cereal is, there’s an edible cereal bar with your name on it, and the best thing is that you won’t have to do the dishes afterward unless, of course, you’re the one making them. Cereal bars are certainly one of the most interesting types of weed edibles.

10. Potato Chips

Potato chips infused with THC

Edible Type: Snack

So, you’re not much on sugary snacks and want to grab something different to eat. Grab some weed-infused potato chips. A yummy barbecue flavor might be what you’re after, or maybe a nacho-flavored chip while you watch the game.

There are plenty of flavors to meet your taste buds’ requirements. Spice things up with red hot-style chips too.

The only problem I can see is that, like with other chips, you can’t have just one. Keep a bag of regular chips nearby so you don’t get too high.

11. Crackers

Salty crackers on a table

Edible Type: Snack

Are you a cracker snacker? You’ll want to pay close attention to this section. With so many brands trying to outdo the others by coming up with the best cracker snacks, you’re sure to find at least one flavor you love.

If you have a love for zesty flavors, you’ll find Ranch flavors, Rosemary garlic, sour cream and onion, and salt and vinegar to satisfy your cravings.

If your stomach is made of lead and you’re not affected by heat, you may want to try a Buffalo cheddar, Chile Limon, Jalapeño, and cheddar, or a black pepper cracker.

There are some sweet ones, too, like graham crackers. Sweet and salty may go a long way with some folks.

With the large variety of choices, there’s no flavor spared. Any of the crackers, coupled with cheese and some meats, would make for one hell of a charcuterie tray and can either liven up or mellow the mood.

12. Sweet & Salty Stackers

Sweet and salty stacker edibles

Edible Type: Snack

These snacks are a definite treat for the taste buds, and they come with multiple choices.

I’ve seen chocolate chips, pretzels, and peanut butter pieces packaged together. Other options may include graham crackers, jelly, and marshmallows, depending on what you’re looking for.

These sweet and salty combinations were skillfully created and packaged to target munchies, and sometimes it’s not easy to make up your mind about what you’re craving.

Grabbing something from this sweet and salty mix is the perfect answer. Though the question of what you’re craving may remain the same with each high, the answer will undoubtedly change each time.

13. Popcorn

Popcorn edibles and weed jar

Edible Type: Snack

Popcorn is an extremely popular snack, so it’s not surprising that many people enjoy it as a cannabis edible. Marijuana-infused popcorn is quite the treat!

Flavored with a cannabutter, you can add garlic, Parmesan cheese flavoring, caramel, chocolate, hot sauce, nacho flavoring, or anything else you can think of.

A lot of people grab popcorn before they sit down to watch a movie or have a game night with friends.

This could be the ultimate meaning behind Netflix and Chill. While popcorn isn’t my favorite type of edible, I can certainly see why it’s appealing to so many, being that it’s one of the ultimate comfort foods!

14. Beef Jerky

Beef jerky edibles for weed munchies

Edible Type: Snack

So, you want a protein boost. How about beef jerky that’s been infused with marijuana? Not only would you get a protein boost, but you could also boost your mood and energy.

These treats come in traditional flavors and might be just what you need to get through your day. Infused teriyaki beef jerky? I think so.

It’s a quick snack, can be filling even with just a few bites, and has the ability to hold you over until dinner time.

15. Ice Cream

Green ice cream edible infused with THC

Edible Type: Snack

These frozen treats don’t only come in traditional flavors. Makers have gone above and beyond in bringing bizarre and intriguing choices to the market.

From apple and tropical flavors to a peach or triple berry mixture. Throw some chocolate syrup on there, along with some sprinkles, and you have a supreme summer snack.

You can stuff different scoops into a cone or make a sundae in a bowl. Even if it’s not summer, marijuana-infused ice cream can keep you cool and calm throughout the year.

16. Soda

THC infused soda beverage with ice

Edible Type: Beverage

Weed-infused sodas come in a wide variety of flavors, just like regular non-infused sodas do. Some are better flavored than others, but that’s subjective to the one drinking it. There are a few different ways to enjoy weed-infused soda too.

I accidentally found out one day that root beer infused soda is more than capable of putting the “float” into a root beer float.

An orange-flavored one can provide you with the dreamiest orange creamsicle drink you’ve ever had. Other flavors are grape, lemon-lime, and regular cola. It’s been said that freezing grape-infused soda in an ice tray and then using them in an infused lemon-lime drink creates a rather tasty beverage.

Beyond the everyday, typical flavors, there’s an apple-flavored soda, too, that may quench your thirst. Think outside the box and find new ways to enjoy infused soda, or just drink it from the can/bottle.

17. Syrups & Elixirs

THC syrup and pancakes on table

Edible Type: Beverage

You can find weed-infused syrups and elixirs for all kinds of things. They have pancake syrups to turn your breakfast into your favorite meal of the day.

There are syrups to drink straight out of the container and syrups that one can pour into other types of drinks to change up the flavors. You can use some elixirs and syrups to make ice cream shakes or drizzle on cakes.

Turn your pineapple upside-down cake into a whimsical delicacy by drizzling a small amount of pineapple elixir over it. How about using that same elixir to create a more tropical smoothie or mixing it with an alcoholic beverage?

If you’re into that kind of thing, you can even get alcoholic beverages premixed and already infused. You can also just drink the elixir straight from the container.

Oh, the possibilities are endless and can either help get you through your day or end an evening on a very relaxed note.

Ways To Consume THC Edibles

1. Oils

Cannabis oil jar and bud

As your pasta noodles are cooking, you pour a little infused olive oil in the water, with some salt, so they cook quickly, evenly and have the best possible flavor.

The sauce is almost done, and your romantic evening is about to begin. You can mix your own herbs into just about any oil by adding a shake, though look for step-by-step directions.

Serving a salad with vinegar and infused oil would add an amazing touch to any meal. Let your imagination run wild and create foods with oils that are infused. Your mind and body will thank you.

2. Food Syringes

Food syringe filled with cannabis oil next to weed

No, no. These aren’t the syringes you’re probably thinking of. There are no needles involved. These little THC-packed vials can contain either flavored or unflavored oil.

There are a few different ways to use syringes. One very easy way and fast way is to just use a drop or two directly under your tongue. Sublingual usage takes the least time to get to your desired high, and it’s one of the most potent ways to go.

Another way you can use a syringe is by smoking a joint or blunt that you’ve dripped this oil into. It’s best to wait until the weed and oil fusion has dried before smoking. A favorite method to use this among pot smokers has been to drip it into food while cooking. Talk about making an already incredible meal even better!

Squeeze some drops into a soup while you’re boiling it, onto hamburger patties as you’re flipping the burgers on the grill, etc. The possibilities are only limited by your mind. One other way to use these syringes is to dab with them.

3. Shake (The Baker’s Batch)

Marijuana shake leftovers

Essentially, “shake” is just like the marijuana you get after you grind up your buds. It’s the bottom of the bud bag, but it still smokes and can get you super high. Being at the bottom of the barrel isn’t a bad thing. In some cases, it may mean that your shake is more potent, as it’s had more time for kief to grow on top of it.

Shake can be good in hot tea, but you won’t get high. You’ll reap the non-psychoactive benefits from the CBD properties, though. It can soothe aches and pains from your toes up to your head and everywhere in between.

Another way to reap the CBD benefits from “shake” would be to make topicals with it. Again, you won’t get high, but it can definitely help your body and calm your mind. Believe it or not, when “shake” is available in dispensaries, it’s usually sold quicker than it’s stocked.

The most popular way to use it is to add it to your baking and meal prep, especially by creating cannabutter. This brings out the potency of the THC and can get you a superior high.

4. Butter

Cannabis butter on a shiny black plate

Canna butter is an incredible thing! Whether you use it as an ingredient in your baking, in meal prep, or spread it on a slice of toast, it will be pure bliss.

There’s no overbearing marijuana flavor, no green tinge in this sweet butter’s yellow tint.

You can get Canna butter at a dispensary, or you can make it yourself. There is actually a kitchen appliance sold at dispensaries specifically made to help you create cannabutter, though it’s not necessary.

Imagine this butter used in making garlic bread, cinnamon rolls, freshly baked loaves of bread, or something like bullet coffee.

It gives you a great high with real dairy, sweet cream butter. Is anyone up for tea and toast at “high” noon?

5. Sauce

Delicious THC infused sauce

Let’s face it; you can infuse any meal in multiple ways.

How about we add sauces and condiments to the list?! You sit at a table in a restaurant and see quite a few different sauces and condiments on the table. Most people have a variety of them in their refrigerators.

You have ketchup, mayonnaise, salad dressings, mustard, steak sauces, dipping sauces, hot sauces, tomato sauces, etc. Why not infuse them all?

You can make them yourself with some of the items we’ve listed above or get them from dispensaries. Any of these can take your BBQ, salads, or regular meals to a whole new level.

6. Seasonings

Exotic spices in jars

We’re not done cooking yet. Every soup, steak, burger, and roast needs seasonings and spices.

Step up your party hosting and cooking games by infusing your meal spices. You can find spices and seasonings at dispensaries that have been crafted by extremely talented chefs.

For some people, salt and pepper are all they use. Others like to dash exotic and/or cultural blends of fresh herbs and spices into their meals and enjoy that their tongues dance through every bite of their food.

Using infused spices can transform your foods into magical meals that keep your guests happy and at ease.

Are Edibles Safe?

Cartoon illustration of THC infused foods on a table

Edibles are safe if taken at recommended dosages. Dosing is usually printed on the item packages, and a smart budtender will tell you: “Cut the suggested dose amount in half for the first few times.”

Edibles can take anywhere from ten minutes to three hours to start affecting the user, and because of that, new users should wait until that three-hour period ends to take any more, and when they do take another dose, it should only be the remainder of the first.

How long cannabis stays in your system after an edible will depend on the potency, your metabolism, and the type of edible you consume. It’s not unheard of, though, for the effect to last for up to twelve hours.

One of the main concerns about edibles made back in the day is that, most likely, they weren’t dosed properly. Making them from home nowadays may still be tricky, but there are ways to make sure they aren’t overloaded with marijuana.

The goal should be to get the best high while not experiencing any negative effects from your infused foods, not using all your stash in one batch of baked goods. Dispensaries do a good job of keeping the dose exactly where it should be.

It’s up to those who partake to use these infused products as suggested. There’s nothing wrong with going with more after you learn your body and reactions, though, as some may require more than others to get where they want to be mentally and physically.

Are THC Edibles A Replacement For Smoking?

Cartoon of guy eating weed cookies

To get the benefits of marijuana without smoking, edibles are one of your best options. Just about any food, drink, sauce, spice, or seasoning can come in the form of a THC edible.

You can find most of them at dispensaries, but in case you can’t, there are always recipes and step-by-step instructions to teach you how to make them yourself. Some might be more complicated to make on your own, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Whether the flavors and types of edibles available taste good is subject to the one eating or drinking them. Some people don’t care what the taste is, as they just want to reap the benefits of the marijuana-infused product.

Others do care, so it can be a game of hit-or-miss in order to find their favorite items in flavors that won’t make them gag. Don’t get frustrated if it takes longer to find the flavors that agree with your pallet. The search will be well worth it.

If you’d prefer to make your own infused foods, recipes are easy to find, and if you’re daring enough, you can create your own, or at the least add your own secrets to the recipes you find on the internet.

Ingredients are easy to get from the grocery store, except for the weed. That you’ll have to get from your local dispensary. The cost of going either way is fairly similar. Not everyone will have the same experience with edibles, either. We have to take into account that everyone is different, and to expect everyone to have the same experience, is crazy.

Some people won’t get high at all, no matter how much of an edible they eat. Some can take longer to start feeling the effects. There are also a few who will experience the effects in a much stronger way, quicker than anyone else.

That’s the main reason why all potheads should pay attention to how they react to marijuana usage, regardless of how they have chosen to consume it.

Doing that and getting to know how your body will be affected can save you money, pinpoint the best strains and types of consumption that work best for you, as well as give you the best high you will ever have.

There is such a science, not only to how the human body works but also to how it breaks down everything we put into it, and weed is no exception to the rule.

The Final Toke:

infographic Showing Different Types of Edibles at Dispensaries

For those that like to eat or drink their weed, we’ve listed some incredible types of products here. It’s up to you to find your favorite flavors, strains, and types of edibles.

Final Tip: It’s always good to drink plenty of water when you’re getting high and start with low doses.

At this point, it’s hard not to wonder what mind-blowing edibles will come our way in the future.

When the marijuana munchies come calling, hopefully, you’ll recall this guide and either reach for an infused snack that was mentioned or will have your own canna-infused creation.
